What perforated window graphics do on glass
Perforated window graphics are printed vinyl films with tiny holes across the face of the material. From the outside, the printed side shows your logo, contact details, campaign artwork or product message. From the inside, the perforation keeps the view through the glass open enough for normal use.
This makes them a practical choice for rear vehicle windows, side cargo windows, shuttle buses and glass panels on business premises where you need branding without blocking the whole pane. The film also helps reduce glare and direct sun, which is useful for drivers and passengers in hot Gauteng traffic and on coastal routes where glass surfaces heat up quickly.
- Outside view: full colour printed branding
- Inside view: partial visibility through the perforations
- Typical use: branding, privacy, glare reduction
- Suitable for: short term campaigns or longer fleet use
Sizes, print options and finish choices
Window perf graphics are usually supplied to the exact size of the glass panel, then trimmed to suit curves, seals and heated rear windows. We work from measurements on the vehicle or glass panel, and can produce single panels or full sets for a fleet. For most vehicles, the graphic is cut to sit just inside the black frit band and not interfere with wipers, demister lines or opening panes.
Common options include full coverage panels, partial lower-band graphics, rear window branding only, and matched sets across several vehicles. If your fleet has mixed models, we can standardise the layout so each unit carries the same message even if the glass sizes differ a bit.
- Standard widths: cut to panel size, often 400 mm to 1800 mm per panel
- Standard lengths: small side windows to full rear windows, up to 2500 mm on larger glass
- Print: full colour, one-way view perforated film
- Finishes: gloss print face, adhesive backing for exterior glass application
- Cutting: straight cut, contoured cut, or panel matched to window shape
Where this product works best
Perforated glass graphics suit vehicles and sites where the glass is visible to the public for long periods. They are strong for delivery fleets, service vans, minibus taxis, shuttles, site vehicles and sales vehicles that spend time in traffic or parked outside client premises. On a shopfront, they work well on internal glass facing the street, especially where you need privacy for stock, counters or work areas.
They are also handy where local rules or landlord conditions allow branding on glass but not on walls or roofs. In office parks, light industrial areas and municipal buildings, perforated film is often easier to approve than large solid signs, because the inside side still allows some daylight through. It is not a substitute for proper safety film though, so if your glass needs extra protection we will advise on the right layering and fixings.
- Vehicle windows on vans, bakkies, buses and shuttles
- Rear panels where advertising is needed most
- Shopfront or office glass facing roads and parking areas
- Temporary campaigns, promotions or seasonal branding
Installation on vehicles and buildings
Good installation starts with clean glass. We degrease the surface, remove road film, polish off old adhesive where needed and check for chips, lifting tints or hard water spots before any film goes on. On vehicles, the glass is dried fully and the edges are checked so the perforated film bonds properly around the curve and seal. On buildings, we confirm the glass type and whether the panel has any tint, coating or safety treatment that could affect adhesion.
Window perf graphics do not need power or gas to run, but the job does need a clean dry environment and controlled fitting conditions. In Kya Sand and across our wrap bays, we work with enough lighting and airflow to avoid dust trapped under the film. For site installs, we need basic access, safe parking and a power point for tools and lighting if the area is dark. If the glass sits near moving windows or heating elements, we will test the clearances before fitting so the film does not snag.
- Power needs: none for the film itself
- Site needs: clean dry glass, safe access, basic lighting
- Best fitting conditions: low dust, no rain, no direct water spray for curing
- Common turnaround: same day for smaller sets, longer for fleet volumes
Care, washing and service life
Perforated graphics need gentle care if you want the print to last and the clear view to stay usable. During the first 48 hours after fitting, avoid washing or rolling the window down so the adhesive can settle fully. After that, wash by hand with a soft cloth and mild soap. Do not use high-pressure wash nozzles close to the edges, as that can lift the corners over time.
For fleet use, we recommend a regular check at service intervals. Look for edge lifting, scratched print faces, lifting around heated glass lines, or dirt build-up in the perforations. On vehicles that work near the coast, salty air can shorten the life of any exterior film if it is not rinsed down often. If a panel gets damaged, we can remove and replace just that section without redoing the entire vehicle.
- First 48 hours: keep dry and avoid winding windows down
- Cleaning: soft cloth, mild soap, low pressure rinse from a distance
- Avoid: abrasives, solvent cleaners, blade scraping
- Service life: varies by exposure, usage and wash routine
What to check before you order
The best results come from a clear order brief. Tell us whether the graphic is for a vehicle or a building, which windows must remain fully see-through, and whether you want outside branding only or branding plus privacy. For fleets, we also need the make and model list, window measurements if available, and any standard artwork files so the layout can be kept consistent across all units.
It helps to confirm whether the glass has rear demister lines, tint film, opening panes or curves that may affect cut lines. If you want a uniform look across branches in Sandton, Midrand, the East Rand or Durban, we can keep the same colour values and layout rules across the set. Please check spelling, telephone numbers and physical addresses carefully before print because once the film is fitted, corrections mean removal and reprint.
- Glass type and exact panel sizes
- Vehicle model or site photos for fitting reference
- Artwork, logo files and approved wording
- Which panels must keep inside visibility
